Traumatic SECRET
"The traumatic secret suggests that the superhuman will often manifest precisely in and around the disabled body, the sick or dying body, the psychedelic or psychoactively assaulted body, the mentally ill body, the abducted body, the tortured body, the haunted or repressed body, and so on.
The paranormal event or altered state of consciousness appears to be “let in” through the temporary suppression or dissolution of the socialized ego, which was opened up or fractured (either at the moment of the event or earlier in the life cycle) through extreme physical, emotional, and/or sexual suffering, that is, through what we would call today trauma. The trauma here is the trigger, but not necessarily the cause. Put a bit differently, the traumatic fracture does not “produce” the mystical state; it “allows” the state to appear through the otherwise stable and solid defense structures of the ego."- Jeffery Kripal
If the traumatic secret is a real phenomena, then what would be the biggest traumatic experiences we endure as humans have or will experience? What about the Universe if we believe it is a living thing? Let’s look at traumatic events on a micro vs macro level
Micro: Birth - Loss of friends/Family - Sexual abuse - Religious Sacrifice- Torture - Comet/Meteor hitting earth with intelligent beings on a planet/Earth. - 911
Macro: Big Bang - Black Holes - Star Collisions - (EMP)- Comet/Meteor hitting another planet - The Pandemic - War -Natural Disasters
"Nothing in our everyday experience gives us any reason to suppose that matter is not material, that it is made up of bizarre forms of energy that violate, very much like spirit, all of our normal notions of space, time, and causality. Yet when we subject matter to certain drastic treatments, like CERN’s Hardon Collider near Geneva, Switzerland, then we can see quite clearly that matter is not matter at all. But- and this is key- we can only get there through a great deal of physical violence, a violence so extreme and so precise that it costs us billions of dollars and decades of preparation to inflict it."- Jeffery Kripal.
This idea of extreme violence brings up a few things. What is more violent than the big bang idea? What about a large comet/meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs and or other ancient civilizations of which we have no written records? . Finally, Let’s also consider that not everyone disappeared and “few” survived and continued on elsewhere. Could this not be included as one of the most traumatic experiences there is to endure (micro)? If so, how did those survivors cope? Could it be argued that, WE, who would be related, could still be trying to process that trauma?
So, we have two of the most extreme and violent events that can or will ever happen on earth and in the Universe. Could it then be argued that we as humans, even before we are born, have remnants of trauma encoded in our DNA? That is if you believe that DNA carries memories, which I do. How could we even begin to address this particular trauma if we aren't consciously aware of it? Could this trauma have been the trigger to incredibly creative outbursts throughout history? Could it be argued that intelligent life is a product of the most violent and traumatic event known to exist, the Big Bang? What about the myths and stories we read in religious text and in mythology? Could those amazing stories be a reaction to internal and external traumatic events? Lots of questions eh??
I nearly lost my breath chasing the rabbit down this hole. It should be noted that I am no academic and am not claiming any of this to be truth. This is simply a way for me to communicate and reflect after observing and digesting what the hell/spell that is going on. I still have no clue, but do have many suspicions. - James Stabler

~The Younger Dryas impact is another theory in relation to trauma that is worth talking about.
~ Traumatic Superpowers is simply listing examples of characters in movies/shows, etc that have superpowers due to earlier trauma

- Excerpt from "Prisoner of Infinity" about Traumatic Secret (Horsley is looking at this idea from a more Christian point of view than I am and he's also at odds with Kripal to an extent. However, he has some incredible insight and ideas that are worth sharing)
